Description

The role of the propulsion operations team is to ensure customers can use our in-space propulsion systems in the way they need to complete their mission.

The team works at the interface between software, electronics, propulsion hardware, and the customer. We collaborate closely with software and electrical engineers on our embedded control electronics. Together with project managers we talk to customers and determine what kind of manoeuvrers and operations they want to perform with the propulsion system. Working with the propulsion engineers, we determine how high-level concept of operations translate into the low-level read-out from sensors, and the actuation of heaters, valves, and igniters. With AIT we ensure smooth assembly, integration, and verification of propulsion systems.

As Full Stack Web Developer, you will be supporting and developing the many web-hosted tools used throughout our organisation. These range from small API services and data visualisers, to testing infrastructure and internal engineering tools. We are looking for someone who is strong in the backend, but understands that a great web application also requires a good UI and UX.

You will join a team of seven software developers with different backgrounds in embedded software, data science and aerospace engineering. Because we are small, you will quickly be expected to be responsible for specific applications. At the same time, each member of the team generally works across all different applications depending on the priorities.

The role is full time and based on-site at our office in Delfgauw, the Netherlands. We work closely with our colleagues in New Zealand, including a weekly meeting that falls in the evening during Dutch winter time.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain internal web applications end to end, from backend services and APIs to the user interface.
  • Take ownership of specific applications and be responsible for their quality, reliability and further development.
  • Gather requirements from engineers and other users across the organisation and translate them into working tools.
  • Create roadmaps and feature plans for the applications you own, and prioritise them with the team.
  • Design user interfaces and workflows that make complex engineering data and processes easy to work with.
  • Contribute to other tools and projects within the team.

Qualifications

  • A degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience as a web developer.
  • Proven experience with both backend and frontend development;
  • A strong backend skill set, combined with an eye for good UI and UX.
  • Experience with, the languages we work in: TypeScript, Node.js, Python, React and CSS.
  • Comfortable gathering requirements from non-web specialists and turning them into a featureset and roadmap.
  • Able to work on-site in Delfgauw and join an evening meeting with the rest of the team in New Zealand.
  • Experience working with Gitlab and network data infrastructure

Desired Experience

  • Experience with Docker, InfluxDB, or ClickHouse.
  • Experience deploying and running applications on on-premises infrastructure.
  • Experience with testing infrastructure, or working with hardware.
  • Experience with integration in Production/Manufacturing environments

Diversity & Inclusion

At Dawn Aerospace, we believe that diverse teams build better solutions. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences are valued and supported to do their best work.

About Dawn Aerospace

Dawn Aerospace is a space transportation company with a purpose.
Our mission is to enable the next generation of space users by providing more sustainable and scalable ways to access and move around in space. We believe this access, in the form of a transportation network, will fundamentally change what’s possible from space. We currently focus on three areas of space transportation:

  • In-space propulsion
We're a leading supplier of turnkey green propulsion systems for various classes of satellites. Our systems utilise safe, accessible propellants and we have over 170 of these propulsion units on more than 40 operational satellites already. A further 200 units are in production.
  • In-space servicing
Coupled with our propulsion expertise, we are ensuring that our customers' satellites are refuellable. In the coming years, Dawn will offer a refueling service to enable life extension of customer satellites. This new market is aligned with our sustainability goal to ensue a clean and safe space for everyone!
  • Spaceplane
We are developing the fastest and highest-flying aircraft ever to take off from a runway, combining the extreme performance of rocket propulsion with the reusability of conventional airplanes to enable high-frequency, low-cost access to sub-orbital space.

Our international teams are distributed across four locations: the Netherlands, France, New Zealand, and the USA.
