Senior Product Designer
Auror
About Auror
At Auror, we’re empowering the retail industry to tackle theft and Organised Retail Crime, a $150 Billion problem globally. It’s high volume crime that’s increasingly organised in nature and is putting people, retailers, and communities at risk every day.
Founded in New Zealand 11 years ago, we’re working with some of the best and largest retailers in the world across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Auror is connecting people and intelligence to reduce crime. We’re using technology for good.
In partnership with our leading retail partners, we need people with the passion, determination, and innovation required to overcome one of the world's largest problems. If you’re looking to make a difference with and for the people dedicated to stopping crime, for good, then we want you on our team.
We're also embracing the potential of AI to supercharge our impact—whether that's enhancing the way we detect trends, support our customers, or improve internal workflows. As a company, we're committed to responsibly incorporating AI into how we work and what we build, and we encourage all Aurors to be curious about how AI can elevate their work, regardless of role or function.
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Product Designer to join our mobile and integration streams to help frontline retail teams get the information they need in real time, and create high-quality safety events quickly, often under the pressure of a bustling retail environment.
You’ll be dabbling in cutting edge technology, exploring the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning, working out how we amplify our customer’s abilities. Coupled with this, you’ll also be contributing to the next-generation of Auror’s design system (Lumos) that is set to reshape how our customers interact with each other and solve crime collectively.
Alongside the high-performing Mobile and Integrations teams, you’ll also be part of our highly collaborative Product team who are responsible for shipping great products on the daily. From customer understanding through to delivery, you’ll be playing a critical role of designing the experiences we provide our customers, enabling our business to scale and take our software to the world.
At Auror, our Product squad works in streams. We currently have 12 streams and each stream has representatives from each team - this includes Product Manager, Product Design, Quality Assurance and Software Engineering. This way of working encourages and fosters collaboration amongst the team. A trio of Product Manager, Designer and Engineering Lead are responsible for the planning and delivery of the stream’s objectives.
This is a permanent role, initially covering one of our team going on 12 month maternity leave, but extending on after she returns.
The core responsibilities of this role include:
- Get under the skin of our users, their jobs, and the world they operate in. Know our competitors like the back of your hand. Turn research and data into sharp, actionable insights that drive design decisions.
- Stay curious and ahead of the curve, spotting trends, testing ideas, and influencing product strategy. Design with intent and ethics, always mindful of how our work impacts people and communities.
- Sketch fast, test early, and learn quickly. Use lo-fi methods to validate ideas, then turn the best ones into stunning, high-fidelity designs and prototypes that bring clarity and excitement.
- Work hand-in-hand with product managers, engineers, and others to make ideas real. Share progress, champion design thinking, and show how great design elevates every part of Auror.
- Help evolve our design systems and processes. Document decisions, mentor others, and leave the design org stronger than you found it.
This role reports into Hayden Raw - Director of Product Design
An interface design native, I've worked on projects spanning game design, graphic design, UI/UX design, and product and service design for a range of digital agencies, start ups and government agencies. The projects I've worked on have spanned fin-tech, recruitment-tech, the energy sector, and government interventions for small business, but have all been bound by using a strategic approach to design.
Trained under a founding member of the Memphis design movement, my design style is a colourful deconstruction of form and function, grounded in simplicity. I love a design that challenges my priors, and breaks the “sea of same” we live in.
Brought up on the beautiful Ōtākau Kuiti (Peninsula area of Dunedin, NZ), I've recently moved back from Auckland to help my ageing family program their VCR's. Central Otago is my happy place; Where you're just as likely to find me in the hills on my mountain bike, as you are curled up with a Pinot and a pop-science book about how we live in a self-induced hallucination. Check out my LinkedIn here.
